Brainwave-Responsive Headphone
Orphey is a luxury EEG-powered headphone designed to enhance well-being through real-time mood adaptation. Using brainwave detection and AI-driven soundscapes, it learns and optimizes the user's emotional state over time. Positioned as a high-end lifestyle product, Orphey is targeted at professionals, entrepreneurs, and individuals with demanding, high-stress lifestyles.


The project began with persona development and a refined design brief to align the technological and aesthetic vision. Multiple pre-concept explorations were developed before selecting a final design direction, focusing on aesthetic harmony with luxury tech brands, premium materials and finishes for a high-end consumer experience, and balanced weight distribution to ensure long-term comfort.


One of the most complex aspects was designing an EEG sensor system that ensures stable skin contact while maintaining comfort. We engineered custom retractable EEG spikes with soft, rounded tips, electrically actuated for consistent skin contact. A multi-point EEG array with four sensor arrays in the headband arch and three additional sensors per ear cup ensures full coverage of brain activity. The brush-like electrode design adapts to individual head shapes for optimal fit.

Orphey's AI-driven audio experience combines pre-programmed emotional triggers with user-specific learning. Users select a desired mood, and the AI adapts audio properties to guide them toward that state. The system continuously learns user-specific reactions, fine-tuning music selections and sound modulation. Cloud-based processing via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enables advanced AI models to analyze and optimize responses.


Orphey was designed as a statement piece, combining cutting-edge technology with luxury-grade craftsmanship. Premium polymers and soft-touch finishes ensure durability and comfort, while laser-etched details and minimalist design elevate the aesthetic appeal. Unlike traditional EEG headsets focused on scientific applications, Orphey was envisioned as a high-end lifestyle product blending performance and aesthetics.
